Cluster Housings

As I wrote before it es difficult to find the right case for the BOINC Cluster. There are lots of options on the market regarding those cases. The Waveshare PoE HATs with their GPIO extension are limiting the choices of suitable cases already. I also want not to simple stack them, because the cabling will look like a little mess. For shure your cluster should also look neatand tidy since it will not be banned into the broom closet, right?

To make it short: While looking around for a suitable case solution I found Ivans uptime lab project and I fell in love immediatly with thios designs. Since I have to deal with printing from 9 to 5, for shure i got triggered with „printing“ my own cluster rack. This is definitly going to happen in the future.

Check Ivans awsome PI Rack Server designs on www.uplap.pro

I also found a this small compact rack on myminifactoy which should do the job for the beginning. The Prusa Community offers a map of all users which are willing to print objects for a small fee. I contacted a Prusa user nearby who immdiatly agreed to print small compact rack. Actually we then found out that he does not live nearby and he just did not registered correctly on the portal. Anyway the rack should shipped than.

The model is absolutely awesome. It was originally designed to hold 5 Raspberry Pi and / or Zero units. The design allows you also to mount a 2,5″ HD or SSD to the rack. With attached PoE HAT i was only able to mount 3 Raspberry to the rack. But this solution already comes neat.

Hey, I am Jan. I am an IT Project and Technical Application Manager specialized on Output Management und CCM Solutions.

I have always been that hands on guy. Since it has not been possible in my business to get in touch with kubernetes I decided to do something on my own. Crunching with BOINC looks reasonable for me here.

I first registred for SETI@Home on 07. July in 1999. Happy crunching!
